I was involved with a discussion about the etymology of the word 'muggy' which people use to describe oppressive, high humidity weather. My friends thought it was used because the weather mugs you like a mugger attacks a person in an alley. No way. The word goes back to 1731 Scandinavia. It was a derivation of the word 'mugen' and the old Norse word 'mugga' which both meant "Drizzly mist." So there!
