On this date, One-hundred fifty-two civilians were massacred by the Sri Lankan army (1991), Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle "Ron" Goldman were murdered in Los Angeles, California (1994), and forty-nine people were killed in an Orlando, Florida night club by a single gunman (2016). But the most significant event occurred in Virginia many years before.
On this date in 1776, the Virginia Declaration of Rights was ratified. That Declaration was written by George Mason and submitted to the State Legislature in May.
One month later, Thomas Jefferson drew up America's Declaration of Independence and James Madison drafted our Bill of Rights based on the Virginia document.
These documents have served us well for over two and a quarter centuries. God bless America.
