INTERFAITH WISDOM

The Lutheran Church is a protestant christian congregation.  Martin Luther began the Protestant Reformation in 1517 when he attempted to refocus the Catholic Church to what he considered it's proper direction.  By 1521, he made a definite split based on his idea of authority within the church and his doctrine of justification.  Justification allows that God has forgiven the sins of all those with faith as opposed to the Catholic teaching which requires confession and penance.

Among the gifts from Luther are the model prayers he included in his catechism.  Here I have copied his morning prayer.

"I thank you, My Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You.  For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.  Let your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me.  Amen."

All Christians would do well to recite this verse each morning.
