On this date in 1955, Disneyland was opened. Walt Disney himself, who oversaw the design and construction, officiated at the dedication and opening. The theme park has the largest accumulative attendance of any venue in the world - some 650 people have crossed through it's gates.
Here is the dedication that Mr. Disney proclaimed.
"To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here, age relives fond memories of the past, and here, youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."
I visited the park in 1995. The admission price was $33 per person. Today, you can spend $97 - $124 to get in.
Disneyland - 62 years ago today.
