WEEKEND LITURGY

WISDOM 12:13,16-19    PSALM 86     ROMANS 8:26-27     MATTHEW 13:24-43

In the Old and New Testament readings we hear that God is just and that he sent the Spirit to help us. In the Gospel, Jesus again is teaching in parables.  He uses examples that farmers and home-makers of the day would associate with - the sowing of seed, the reaping of crops and the making of bread.

Like I said last week, we can interpret parables on several levels.  This week Jesus instructs that the good seed are the good children of God.  I'd like to think that almost all of us are in this group.  Now, just like seed that has been planted, we must germinate and be tended by good people.  Like the seed, we must sustain ourselves against the weeds - the wicked people of the world.  We must be strong enough to make it through harsh weather - rough times.  Like the seed, we must grow and flourish. We must be fruitful and become strong enough that others can rely on us.  We must know that someday we will be harvested by master.  You don't really have to be a farmer to get this.
