WEEKEND LITURGY

KINGS 3:5, 7-12     PSALM 119     ROMANS 8:28-30     MATTHEW 13:44-52

In the Gospel, again this week, Jesus is teaching in parables.  He is describing to the uneducated masses,  the Kingdom of Heaven and how to get there.  This time He uses examples of merchants and fishermen.

The beautiful story related in Kings is about Solomon.  He was the young son of King David who had become king at his father's death.   God appeared to Solomon in a dream and offered to give him anything he wanted.  Solomon asked only for an "understanding heart" so that he could rule and judge his people fairly.   This pleased God and he was granted more wisdom and understanding than anyone on Earth.

This is a lesson for us on how to pray - what to ask for in prayer.  Ask not what God can do for you but for what you need to help others.  Ask not what God can do for you but for what you need to help others.  It was worth repeating.
