There is no other date in the year that makes it impossible to come up with a "It happened on this date in..." than September 11. It will take two to three generations before the impact is reduced to the level of other events. There is not much I could ever add to the knowledge of the event in 2001 at this time. The 19 terrorists killed 2,978 human beings; left over 6,000 others injured and scarred...16 years ago today.
If you scoffed when I said that in two or three generations the 9/11/01 attacks would be viewed like many others, hear this. On September 11, 1944, the RAF (Royal Air Force) bombed the city of Darmstadt, Germany; a city of 110,000 people. The bombing and subsequent fires killed an estimated 11,500 human beings...73 years ago today. I'm sure you never heard of it.
