THE SUPREME COURT

If you type 'supreme court' into the search block in the top left of this page, you will find all entries I have made over the years relative to that subject.  I find it interesting reading.  I bring this up today because senior Associate Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced yesterday that he will retire at the end of July.  He will be 82 years old and has been on the Court since 1988.

President Trump has the duty to nominate Kennedy's replacement.  The Senate has the responsibility to accept or reject the nominee.

Justice Kennedy has been the 'swing vote' on the nine-member court for a number of years.  Of the other Justices, four are primarily conservative and four are primarily liberal.  Justice Kennedy was somewhat conservative but could not be counted on to vote that way in every case.

Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 85 years old and Associate Justice Stephen Breyer is 79 years old.  Both of these justices lean to the liberal side of jurisprudence.  It could be that either or both might leave the court in the not-to-distant future.  The future of our Republic will be defined by the citizens seated on this Court.  It is very important.
