GOLF WAR

Tomorrow begins one of the great sports events of the year - er, the biennial.  It is simply called the Ryder Cup.  The twelve best golfer from the U.S. meet the twelve best golfers from Europe head to head.  Two team rounds (four teams of two players) are played on Friday and two on Saturday.  Sunday each of the 12 players is matched up against another on the other team.  That totals 28 matches - 14 or more wins means victory.

The U.S. has not defeated the Europeans in Europe since 1993.  This year the matches are in Paris.  In two years, they will be held in America again.

Two years ago, the matches were held in Minnesota and the American team won handily.  The Europeans will have to win 14-1/2 points to take the cup back.

I assure you the excitement is intense.  It is golf like you've never seen it before.  Fans draped in American Flags, rhythmic chants by the Euros, faces painted, and boos and cheers like you've never heard.  'Tis a jolly good time.

I can't wait.
