THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

MARK 9:38-48

"If your hand causes you to sin, cut if off.  Better to go through life with one hand than to go with two hands into Hell."   Wow!  "Cut off your foot!  Pluck out your eye!"  That all sounds kind of harsh, doesn't it?  Of course it's true, but . . . who would do that?

Me thinks Jesus was a little fed up with the Apostles after, as we heard last week, they were trying to figure out which of them was the top dog.  He must have thought they needed a jolt - a shock.  They needed something to impress on them the extreme importance of living life according to His teaching.  He sent them a real message. 
 
We all need to be shocked from time to time.  Jolted back into reality.  Listen.
