CINCINNATI

David Bell has been selected as the new Cincinnati Reds manager.  Forty-six year-old Bell is the grandson of 1950s Reds outfielder Gus Bell and son of 1980s Reds third basemen Buddy Bell.  His brother Mike is the Director of Player Development for the Arizona Diamondbacks.   David attended Moeller High School.

Buddy currently works as senior advisor to the Cincinnati Reds general manager.  In case you are thinking that David got the job through nepotism, here are his credentials:

  • Led Moeller to the State High School Championship in 1989.
  • Played in the Major Leagues from 1995 to 2006.
  • Played on SF Giants World Series team in 2002
  • Managed the Reds double-A affiliate Carolina 2008-2011
  • Managed the Reds triple-A affiliate Louisville in 2012
  • Third Base Coach for Chicago Cubs in 2013.
  • Hitting Coach for St. Louis Cards in 2014.
  • Bench Coach for the St. Louis Cards in 2015-2017.
  • Vice President of Player Development with the SF Giants 2018

A good resume is no guarantee of success but it's a good start.  Good luck David.
