DECEMBER 10

The Nobel Peace Prize was first awarded on this date in 1901.  It went to Henry Dunant of Switzerland.  This year's recipients were Dennis Mukwege (Congo) and Nadia Murad (Iraq).  These days, each recipient receives 9 million SEK (Swedish Krona) or about $990,000.00.  

There have been 130 recipients in the 117 years since it's inception including 106 individuals and 24 organizations.  The most recent Nobel Prize Laureates from the United States are Barack H. Obama, Albert A. Gore Jr. and Jimmy Earl Carter Jr.  

They can give their money and medals to whomever they please.
