THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass we will hear John's account of the wedding feast at Cana where Jesus performed His first miracle.  He did it at the request of his mother - changing water to wine - for the benefit of friends on their special occasion.

It might surprise you that Mary would urge Jesus to do this and that He considered refusing.  She would hear none of it.  Jesus was about thirty years old - old enough that a man would not want his mother ordering him to do something he didn't want to do - especially as He sat with several of His newfound friends.  He obeyed.

Paul's first letter to the Corinthians (12:4-11) will be read prior to the Gospel.  Here Paul explains to his followers some things about the Holy Spirit that we should keep in mind.  First, remember that the Holy Spirit is God and then, that it is from the Spirit that we receive gifts.  Paul enumerates many of these gifts in his letter.  Now, we are each blessed with many gifts; know that they come from the Spirit.  Don't be afraid to pray to the Holy Spirit.  It is a relationship you should kindle.
