TODAY I LEARNED

Today I learned why Vermont was not one of the 13 original colonies of America.  It was there alright; sitting between New Hampshire and New York.  During our Revolutionary War, it fought along side the Confederation of the Colonies against the British.  It was the Republic of Vermont.  Who knew?  These people were independent.  They had their own money/coinage and their own postal service.  The Green Mountain Boys militia kept the peace.

After the war, Vermont was the 14th state to be admitted the Union.  They did it in 1791.  Vermont is proud that it was never a colony of Great Britain.

The state is largely situated in the Green Mountains.  It's capital, Montpelier, had a population of under 8,000 in 2010.  The whole state has less people than Cincinnati.  It has been tabbed as the safest state in the nation.  If you have some maple syrup, it probably came from Vermont.  What else do you need to know?

I've never been to Vermont.  If you're looking for a great place to watch paint dry, you couldn't find a more beautiful place.
