CINCINNATI

Memories of Cincinnati on the Sunday the Super Bowl is played.

The Cincinnati Bengals were formed in 1966 as members of the American Football League (AFL).  They began playing games in 1968 and 1969 seasons.  They played their home games at Nippert Stadium on the University of Cincinnati campus.

In 1970, the AFL joined the National Football League and the Bengals were in their American Football Conference Central Division.  Home games were now in Riverfront Stadium.  The divisions were realigned in 2002 and the Bengals division is now called North.

The Bengals reached the playoffs in 1970 and thirteen other times in their history.  They made it to the Super Bowl twice:  XVI and XXIII.  Each time they played the San Francisco 49rs and each time they were defeated. Ken Anderson quarterbacked one and Boomer Esiason the other.

I'd write more but my tears are falling on the computer screen making it difficult to read.  Maybe next year.
