RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

FEBRUARY 25

I noted with interest, and I suppose you may have also, that the men who make these decisions in the Ohio state government, recently recommended an $.18 per gallon increase in our gasoline tax.  AN ADDITIONAL EIGHTEEN FRIGGIN' CENTS PER GALLON!  We already are paying 28.01 cents per gallon in tax for the State of Ohio AND 18.4 cents per gallon to the federal government.  You see, when you pay $2.00 per gallon at the station, about $1.54 is for the gas and 46 cents is for taxes.

On this date in 1919, exactly 100 years ago today, the State of Oregon imposed a one cent tax on every gallon of gasoline sold.  It was the first gasoline tax in our country.

That started it.  You can't stop it . . . unless you buy an electric motor driven car.
