RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

At Catholic mass this weekend, you will hear readings that include one from the Book of Kings and the Gospel of Luke.  They go together.

In the later, Luke tells about two instances of Jesus instructing those who want to follow Him; one, a man who wanted to bury his father first, the other, a man who just wanted to say goodbye to his family.  Rather harshly it seems, Jesus told them to forget those things and to get on with following Him.

In the excerpt from the Old Testament Book of Kings, the story is about Elijah and Elisha, another man's son.  God told Elijah to name Elisha as prophet to succeed him.  Elisha was plowing a field when he got word from Elijah.  Elisha immediately stopped and slaughtered the 12 oxen he was using to plow and burnt up their yokes to cook them.  He gave the meat to the poor.  Now that's what you call answering the call without question - and doing it immediately.

Listen for the call in your life.  Answer the call - immediately, if not sooner. 😉
