RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SEPTEMBER 2

On this date in 1963, that's the year I graduated from high school, the CBS Evening News lengthened it's broadcast from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.  It was the first network to do that.  Until this date, all network news programs were just 15 minutes.  Actually, many programs were just 15 minutes in length in the 1950s.

Do you think there was not enough news in those days?  Today, all the networks have half-hour news programs or longer in the morning, noon and night.  Today, we have networks that offer "news" 24 hours a day.  More is not always better.

Fifty-six years ago today!

ps.  Walter Cronkite was the CBS newsman and anchor.
