RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This week at Catholic mass we are treated to Luke's gospel chapter 15.  It includes three stories which Jesus used to instruct his followers.  Each story relates, not to conversion, but to return.

In one, he explains how a good shepherd chases after a single lost lamb. Everyone is important.  In another, he explains how a person would go to extremes to find some lost money.  Every cent is important.  Lastly, the story of the Prodigal Son who returns to his father's home in disgrace.  The prodigal son was given the freedom to choose his own way - just as we are.   In the end, the son chose to return to his father.

In each story, the lost is found.  In each story, a joyous celebration follows the return.  It is God's way.

The response to these readings is from Psalm #51.  It is simply:  "I will rise and go to my father."

"All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in His house."
