RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

1/06/2020

JANUARY 6

On this date in 1929, 91 years ago today, Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu landed in Calcutta, India.  The young lady who became known to the world as Mother Teresa was there as a missionary to work with the poor and the sick.

She was only 19 years old and had traveled from Ireland.  She was in Ireland for just one year after leaving her home in what we now call North Macedonia on the Balkan Peninsula.  She remained in India and worked with the poor until her death in 1997.

In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity - a religious congregation.  They now have nuns  working with the sick and poor in over 133 countries.   The world is a better place because of her.
