RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THIS N THAT

I'm getting my eyes checked today for the first time in about three years - maybe four.  Being that I stretched one years worth of contact lenses into that time, I thought I should.  The eyes have it.

Famous French President Napoleon Bonaparte was raised to speak Corsican.  French was actually his third language.  That was before Twitter language.

Speaking of French - within this blog I am constantly searching for mot juste.  That's a cute little phrase you may see once-in-a-while meaning: "just the right word."

While I'm stuck on France, I'm reminded that I heard recently that Notre-Dame de Paris may not be worth rebuilding.  What a shame.

I'm also reminded of the sing-song chant from my childhood that went, "I see London, I see France, I see someone's underpants."  If you remember that, you may be old, too.  Of course, now it seems like I can see someone's underwear every time I go to the mall.  Pull your pants up young men and by the way, "when did bras become outerwear?"

Did you know that Corvette, the name of the Chevrolet line's sports car, is a French word for a small, fast, maneuverable sailing ship?

Which leads me finally, to the name Chevrolet itself.  The car nameplate is named after Louis Chevrolet - co-founder of the company in 1911 which became General Motors.  His name, derives from the French word "chevre" meaning "goat" or "goat herder".  Who knew?
