Here's something I recently stumbled across. Take a look at the zipper on the coat or trousers or whatever you're wearing. Chances are you will see that the letters "YKK" are imprinted on the pull tab - unless it's covered with something. Do you know what that means? I give you a moment to think about it.
Times up! Did you come up with Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha. This company, founded by Tadao Yohsida in 1934, makes 90% of all the zippers in the world. It's a monopoly, of course, but no one wants it broken up. They make quality products at a very low price.
Would you like to own stock in a company worth $5 billion and that has 90% of the business in it's industry? Too bad! It's a privately held company. The Yoshida family still controls almost a third of that.
Oh, in case you don't read Japanese, those words Kogyo Kabushikikaisha just mean Industries Limited. If you want to check my spelling, go ahead.
