On this date in 2002, the U.S. military launched Operation Anaconda.  This was our invasion into Afghanistan . . . our attempt to eliminate the al-Qaeda and Taliban forces operating training facilities there - training terrorists including those that pulled off the 9/11 attack in our country.

This date is especially significant today, because just this weekend, President Trump announced that an agreement had been reached with the Taliban to end the war in Afghanistan - almost 18 years later to the day.  Let us pray the peace holds.


The black in the Afghanistan flag represents occupation by foreigners. The red represents the blood of their freedom fighters.  The Green represents Islam the national religion.  In the center is a depiction of a mosque, a prayer niche and a pulpit all enclosed by wheat.
