Ten students were killed in the library while two other students and one teacher died elsewhere in the building. Twenty-one additional people were injured by gunfire and three students were injured escaping the building.
The gunmen were two senior class boys - they each committed suicide in the library as police closed in on them. Together, they carried two shotguns, one rifle, one handgun, four knives and several incendiary devices and homemade bombs. They had also set up bombs in cars in the parking lots. None of their bombs fully ignited but they were able to start several fires.
The siege lasted less than an hour. A sad day for our country - twenty-one years ago today.
