Railroad torpedoes are a small dynamite charge put on the tracks to worn trains to stop.  If one train on a track had to make an unscheduled stop, workers from the rear of the train would go back and strap these little bombs to the track.  The sound of the small explosion would worn oncoming engineers.  They were used a lot before cell phones.


Most of those who know me have caught me with a taradiddle.  I actually like them. (look it up)

A Union Civil War division general named Joseph Hooker was beloved by his troops.  He saw the need to provide female companionship (camp ladies) for them.  Now you know why prostitutes are sometimes called "Hookers."
