RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

At Catholic mass this weekend, you will hear three readings about commitment.  To you, these may be tough words, to be sure.

From the Old Testament, we have a reading from the 2nd Book of Kings;  we have been hearing difficult- to-fathom stories from this book all week.  This one just tells of a holy man for whom a great courtesy was given and how he repays it.

From the New Testament, we have short verses from Paul's letter to the Romans.  A simple message is found;  be good and you will receive good, live in Christ and you will receive Christ's reward.

From Matthew's Gospel, we hear no-nonsense quotations of Jesus teaching his Apostles;  encompassing the same message.   Love me more than anything, including your own life and I will love you and you will receive an eternal reward.  Also, treat others in this same way; if they are good to you, be good to them.

It's not a difficult message but one we should remember.
