We call the rising and falling of the ocean level 'tides'.  The ocean has tides because of the Earth's rotation and the gravitational attraction of the Moon and Sun.  We have Spring Tides when the Sun and Moon are on the same or opposite sides of the Earth.  We have Neap Tides when the Sun and Moon are 90° from each other.  Three of our Great Lakes are seen to have tides.
