PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL

The American Professional Football Association was formed in 1920 from teams that had been playing in the Ohio League and others nearby.  In 1922, they changed the name to the National Football League with headquarters in Canton, Ohio.

One of those founding teams was the Dayton Triangles who played at Triangle Park.  That park was located at the convergence of the Great Miami and Stillwater Rivers.

The first ever NFL game was played between the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles.  The Triangles won 14-0.

At the meeting forming the league, it was decided that every team would have to throw in $100 as a franchise fee.  It has been said that no team ever did.  $100 was a lot of money.

Today the Dallas Cowboys are valued at $5.7 billion (highest) and the Cincinnati Bengals at $2 billion (least).  I guess the dollar, just like the old gray mare, ain't what it used to be.
