THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass we hear in the Gospel, John's version of the calling of Peter and his brother Andrew to follow Jesus. There are three versions in the Gospels but they are all simple:  "Come, follow me."   This was the New Testament echo of the story of Samuel in the Old Testament which is the first reading.  "Here I am Lord.  I have come to do your will."

In the reading from Paul's letter, he confronts them with some simple logic; I'll paraphrase it here.  If you are followers of Christ, you are part of His church and part of Him.  So, avoid immorality of the body.  Because you are part of Him, the Spirit lives in you.  Do not sin against your own body.  Use your body to glorify God - nothing less.

Have a great weekend!  May God bless you.
