THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass the Baptism of the Lord will be celebrated and you will hear a passage from the prophet Isaiah, words from the Apostles after Jesus death and from gospel writer Mark who will talk about John the baptizer.  The visible sign in each is water.  Rain makes the soil fertile and fruitful; it quenches our thirst.  John used the waters of the River Jordan to wash away past sins of those who repented.  And from the gospel, a reminder that Jesus, who had no need of repentance, allowed John to baptize him as a sign to us all.   From that gospel, I quote, "On coming up out of the water, he (John) saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him (Jesus).  And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.""

Be grateful that you are baptized - stay true to it's promises.

"... I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins ..."

- - Nicene Creed

Bless you all.  I love you.
