Prayer is talking directly to God, His son Jesus or the Holy Spirit. It can also be done indirectly by talking to an Angel or Saint and asking them to speak to God on your behalf.
I feel there can be up to four elements in a prayer: Praise! Repent! Ask! Yield! I think they are self explanatory. I just want to point out that it is very easy to omit "Yield" - we should not do that. Yielding is the part where you listen to God and you promise to do what He wants you to do.
Don't be afraid to offer to yield to His wishes. Like all prayer, the answer may not come immediately or in the time you hoped. Be persistent. Use your own language.
How about this?
Dear God, I want to do what you want me to do. Smack me upside the head so that I may know what that is. Just kidding, God. But, I do promise to keep listening and looking for your answer. Amen.
