RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

TEENAGERS

When we are very young, one of the first things we learn is how to communicate. That happens way  before we can speak.  Most children's very first action is to cry.  It is a response to the new world into which they were thrust.  Surely, it is not as warm and cozy as that very first home. It is upon this crying that a child is taught action and reaction.  "Cry and these creatures will give me what I want."  It is a good lesson.  "Loud noise gets action."

The second type of communication a child learns is to smile.  "I can make that funny face just like they do."  They make a smiley face and I make a smiley face.  They love it; so I'll keep doing it."

Skipping ahead 16 years, is it any wonder teenagers mope around with a long face playing hideously loud  music on their electronic devices or in their cars?   I think not.
