RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

Today I'll start with a little Latin instruction.  You've no doubt heard the phrase "alma mater".  It's Latin translation would be "nourishing mother", or maybe "nursing mother" or "fostering mother".  The phrase is usually used, in our country, in relation to our school; most often our college. A school does nourish, nurse and foster.  In some ways, it does take the place of our mother.

In the same sense, we could use the phrase in talking about our city, community, or neighborhood.  To expand that, it could refer to your church, team or organization; or even a gang.  In all of theses cases, we can get metaphorically, what a mother gives us.

All that said, nothing can really take your mother's place; there is no other.  She is and always will be, special.  I hope no one forgets to honor their mother; those that still have one with them.  It is a blessing to have a mother 'long lived'.  You might thank the Lord for that blessing.  Say "Hi" to Mother Mary while you're at it.

Happy Mother's Day, to my wife, my daughters, my daughter-in-law; mothers all.
