The federal minimum wage was part of the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933.  President Franklin Roosevelt signed it but it was ruled unconstitutional.  The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 was passed five years later and set the standard minimum wage at $.25/hour.  In 1968, when I was really just getting started in the working world, the minimum wage had risen to $1.60/hr.  (Don't laugh, that is equivalent to $12/hr. today).  Since 2009, the federal minimum wage has been $7.25/hr.

"Tyranny of language leads to tyranny of thought."  Philosophers through the ages, from Plato to Orwell, have written about tyranny with respect to language.  How the words are chosen and how they are spoken; the delivery of words can all be used to an end.  Orators from Caesar to Gandhi to Hitler are proof of that.  I worry about the tyranny that some bring on others for the words we commonly use.  If we are getting to the point that people are forbidden the freedom to speak their minds, we will soon be part of a civilization full of people afraid to think.

Can you tell the difference between a llama and an alpaca?  Both are native to Peru.  Llamas have longer faces, longer ears which are curved and coarser hair.  An alpaca is smaller, more gentle and it's hair is sheared for fleece.  I thought you should know.  But watch out, either of them may spit on you.

U.S. military strength stabilizes the world.  It's strength is based not only upon having the latest equipment in sufficient supply but by having a well-trained human force with the proper attitude.  Necessary to that attitude is a spirit of esprit de corps and patriotism.  Without American patriotism, the world we soon fall into a shambles.  Don't allow that to happen.

Someone once said, "Albert, I don't think you're aware of the gravity of this situation."  He replied, "I'm relatively aware of it."
