RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This Sunday at Catholic mass, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be celebrated.  It is a great feast of the Church.

This Mary was the human mother of Jesus.  The Catholic church has affirmed several special facts about her;  that she was born without original sin, that she was a virgin when Jesus was born, that she was taken straight into Heaven at the end of her life where she was crowned queen of Heaven and Earth.  This being taken straight into Heaven is called the Assumption - she was assumed into Heaven.

The Catholic Church has a special and somewhat unique devotion to Mary.  As the mother of the Church, she is the one to go to in times of trouble just as you would go to your mother.   This devotion is very justified and satisfying.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.  Amen

Have a blessed weekend.  I love you.
