In the first reading, Joshua puts it to the Israelites who have just reached the 'promised land' and are feeling pretty good about themselves. Who are you going to follow? Do you choose the gods who the people of this land have always followed or the Lord; the one who freed you from slavery and brought you here.
In the reading from John's gospel, many were grumbling about the path that Jesus had laid out for them. It was difficult with too many restrictions. Jesus was straight forward with them. "If you don't follow me, who will you follow?"
Is the path Jesus laid out for you too tough to travel? Are you choosing the easier way? Who will you follow?
In between these readings, you will hear a portion of Paul's letter to the Ephesians (chapter 5, verse 21-32). It is a beautiful explanation of love and marriage and a comparison of that relationship to the relationship we should have with our faith. Check it out.
Have a blessed weekend. I love you.
