The word this weekend is 'savior'. Jesus is our savior - he saves us so that we may spend eternity with His father. He saves us both physically and spiritually. Physically saving us is so that we may understand the power of God. This should propel us to seek spiritual saving.
The reading this week from Isaiah tells of how Jesus cures our physical ills. In Mark's gospel passage, Jesus cures the deaf man who could not speak. Just an example of what He can do. In the New Testament letter from James, he reminds everyone that Jesus favored the poor. The things of the world are unimportant compared to the things of God.
I have a friend dying in Hospice right now - a classmate from high school that I was fairly close to. He's to the point where we cannot call or visit with him. Another classmate related that he had talked to him a few days ago. My dying friend was quick to point out that he had recently come back to the Church. He made a confession to a priest that covered 58 years. He was exhilarated by it. A penance of 10 small prayers was all it took. He felt free and ready to die if that's what was next.
It's never too late. Never!
Have a blessed weekend. I love you.
