MIDWEEK PRAYER

Patrick Henry, one of our founding fathers, once said, "Bad men cannot make good citizens.  It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains.  A vitiated (defective or ineffective) state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom.  No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality and virtue; and a frequent recurrence to the fundamentals principles."

Its a beautiful way to say, "It takes good people with good morals making good decisions to ensure a good government."

Today, let us pray for our government.

God, our Father,
we pray for the men and women who are in leadership roles in our country.
Inspire them to make positive decisions based on laws in line with your commandments.
Help them to have a vision of the future and the effects their actions will have.
Give them the strength to resist the temptations of personal wealth
and to do what is best for all the people they represent.
May they, and we, always have the courage to say, "Not mine, but Thy will be done."
Amen
