SUNDAY

Happy Sunday.  Six more days to Christmas.  I can't wait to see what presents I will receive.  Most of my life I've been called Scrooge by those who know me well.  I probably have others fooled in that regard.  

I was always against Santa Claus.  Why should he get the credit for delivering presents I worked so hard to afford?  What a stupid idea.  It's such a stale, commercial idea.  

Imagine how great it would be in the world if we told our children that we were celebrating Jesus Christ's birthday by exchanging gifts with our loved ones?  Parents wouldn't have had to start their relationship with their child by lying.  Children would understand more quickly the limits of household spending.  Children would come to know Jesus Christ and his story.   What a novel idea.  

You say it couldn't work.  You think the pressure is just too strong to go along with the charade.  

If only I had the guts - the courage of my convictions.  My children, who are thankfully all well-adjusted, might have been scarred by the experience.   I don't know - I'll never know.  Maybe some day - some time in the future...the world will be all that it can be.
