THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

The weekend at Catholic mass you will note that the rose (pink) candle on the Advent Wreath is now lit.  Where the 'word' the past two weekends has been 'preparation' and 'repentance', this third week we have 'joy'.

The apprehension of pregnancy is easing and the coming of the 'promised one' is almost at hand.  Be joyful.  Every Christian should be full of joy.  "Joy to the World, the Lord is come."

The first reading comes from the work of the prophet Zephaniah.  He says the day of the lord is at hand.
"Fear not, ... don't be discouraged."  "The Lord is in your midst."

In the next reading, you will hear that Paul wrote to the Philippians; "Rejoice!" "Your kindness should be known to all."  "The peace of God will guard your hearts and minds."

In the Gospel reading from Luke, we have the teaching moment of John the Baptist to those seeking conversion.  He said that a life of sharing will bring you joy.  When some thought he might be the messiah, he said, "No.  The good news is that the one to come is much greater than me. He will come to judge and gather."

So, for a day, we pause in the four week journey through Advent.  Continue to prepare for Jesus' coming but do it with joy in your hearts.  This weekend be glad.

I love you.
