RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

For me, the word this weekend at Catholic mass is LOVE.  The Gospel is the continuation of Luke's account of Jesus reading from scripture in the temple.  It follows immediately from last weeks passage in which Jesus told those listening that He fulfilled the prophecy - that He was the one to come and lead the Israelites.  This week we find that many of those listeners still doubted He was the one.  A letdown that strikes close to home.  Many still do not believe He was the one.

All that aside, I am again taken aback by Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13, which is the second biblical reading this week.  It is his beautiful treatise on love.  You've all heard it.  It is often chosen to be read at wedding ceremonies.  Go find your bible; turn to 1 Corinthians and find chapter 13.

After you've read it, think about the song written by Hal David and Burt Bachrach in 1965 and first sung by Jackie DeShannon.  "What the World Needs Now".   You know the answer is love sweet love.  No, not just for some, but everyone.

Love each other.  I love you. Have a great weekend.
