RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

2/12/2022

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

The word at Catholic mass this weekend is HOPE.  The Gospel reading is Luke's version of the beatitudes sermon.  Matthew's was the Sermon on the Mount.  This one is the Sermon on the Plain.

Luke offers only four beatitudes and then contrasts them with 'woe be to you' if you are on the other side of the coin.  Here's an example;  Jesus says "Blessed are the poor, the kingdom of God is yours."  Here he  follows it up with "Woe to the rich, you have already received your consolation."

Okay, let's concentrate on the statements that bring us hope.  To boil it down, no matter how bad things seem to you, don't worry.  There will be great joy in the next life.  Do not lose hope.  Do not succumb to despair.

When you enter church, its a good time to bless yourself and then bend your knee, and say to God, "not mine, but thy will be done."  If you think you are in control, you have another 'think' coming.

Have a great weekend.  I love you.
