So where do you think the magic quote machine lands this week? How about one of the most quotable Irish figures of all time? Oscar Wilde was an author, playwright and poet. He survived from 1854 to 1900. Only 46 when he died, I'm surprised he lived that long. In 1890, he famously penned The Picture of Dorian Grey and you could go all day quoting lines from that philosophical novel. Here are some examples from the depths of Wilde's mind.
"We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars."
"Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made; through disobedience and rebellion."
"Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative."
"And, after all, what is fashion? From the artistic point of view, it is usually a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."
"I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best."
"Reforms in Russia are very tragic, but they always end in a farce." and "Fool, nothing is impossible in Russia except reform."
"No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist."
"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask and he will tell you the truth."
"I am the only person in the world I should like to know thoroughly."
"In this world there are only two tragedies. One is not getting what one wants and the other is getting it."
