THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear a Gospel reading from the end of  Luke's 9th chapter.  In it, Jesus begins his long final journey by foot to Jerusalem.  He sends disciples ahead to make arrangements for Him to stay over night.

On this day, they returned to tell Jesus that they could find no one that would accept him in their home.  Jesus laments that, like at his birth, their was no room for Him to lay his head.  His last journey would reflect on his first journey in His mother's womb.

While walking along, Jesus has conversations with at least three would-be disciples who told Jesus that they wanted to follow Him but that they had family matters to tie up before they left for good.  Jesus rebuked each of them.  It seems harsh but His point was made;  there is nothing more important than following God - nothing.

It does seem like a harsh point but . . . nothing is more important.

Keep your wants, needs, desires and duties in perspective.   It's hard but not impossible.

Have a blessed weekend.  I love you.
