This weekend we have the third Sunday of Advent; traditionally, it is known as the Sunday of Joy. Beautiful readings from the Bible will form our preparation for the coming of Jesus.
First, we remember the words of Isaiah the ancient prophet. He writes of the return of the Israelites to Jerusalem in words that could also describe those entering Heaven. God ransomed the Jews from the Egyptians by the work of Moses and He ransomed us from the world by the death of His son.
A reading from the short book of James, gives his idea about what the end will be. He describes God as standing at the entrance to Heaven and advises us to be patient and persistent in good works in order to enter.
In the Gospel reading from Matthew's writing, he gives us further insight into the afterlife. This line that Jesus spoke to his followers about John the Baptist; I paraphrase - "There is no man on earth greater than John yet the least in Heaven is greater than he." We are not perfect - somehow, we must be perfected - that should be our goal. Yes, we are here to be perfected.
Have a blessed weekend. I love you.
