BORROWED WISDOM

The State of Mississippi officially abolished slavery on February 7, 2013.  Yikes! The back story follows.

This is when they ratified the 13th amendment to the Constitution.  That amendment was adopted in December, 1865 when it was ratified by three-fourths of the States (there were only 36 in 1865);  Mississippi was a hold-out at the time.  The State legislature actually voted to ratify the amendment in 1995 but, by oversight, the paperwork wasn't forwarded to the Federal Government until 10 years ago.

I thought you should know this - - - in case it ever comes up on Jeopardy or there is an awkward lull in a conversation.   😁
