Everyone has seen and heard the sound of woodpecker. It's very distinctive.
Well, welcome to my world. This Spring and last, in the early morning hours just after dawn, I have been greeted with the sound of the metalpecker. You heard me right. The dreadful, obnoxious metalpecker.
Who knew there was such a thing? My investigation tells me that it is actually a woodpecker without any good wood to peck. The loud sound is intended to attract partners or mark territory, some think. The bird gets it done in the rain gutters. I don't think it hurts anything on the house but the bird must feel like it has a hangover.
Every time we go outside to see who's making the racket, it quickly flies away. If you have any ideas about preventive measures, let me know.
