Sicily is that island that the boot we call Italy seems to be kicking into the Mediterranean Sea. Sicily is the largest and most populated island in the Mediterranean. It's capital is Palermo a strong attractor of artists.
Sicily is famous for the Mafia and Mount Etna. Of course, the Godfather lived(s) here but it is even more famous for it's tall mountain. Etna is one of sixteen active volcanos in the world near populated areas that erupt every decade or so. It's attracts a million visitors a year (when its not erupting). Well, it erupted yesterday - defer your vacation plans.
Another tidbit: Sicilians speak a form or dialect of Italian that is noted for not having a future tense. Do you think the Mafia is responsible for that?
