ASHES TO ASHES DUST TO DUST
No, this is not really a Bible verse. It is a thought, inserted in Anglican funeral rites, about how we came from nothing and, at the end of our lives, go back to nothing. You may hear it in Church but I think nothing could be more false.
You did not come from 'nothing', you came from the will of God. And when you die, you will not be 'nothing', you will be with God - for good or for bad.
The Ashes on Ash Wednesday are an ancient tradition representing repentance. Those repenting their sins covered themselves in ashes to show to all how sorry they were for offending the Lord. We take on ashes at the beginning of Lent to show repentance for our sins. It is humbling and shows our remorse to the world.
