SOLAR ECLIPSE

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the Earth and the Sun in your vision.  If you stayed in one spot on the Earth, you would get to see a total solar eclipse about every 400 years.  Now you must be thinking how lucky you are.  We are having one this year - next month, in fact.

That 400 year statistic might make you think the occurrence is quite rare when it is not.  The moon gets in the way quite often from some perspective.  We've had a solar eclipse here just a few years ago but it wasn't total from our perspective.  This year we are on the path of a TOTAL eclipse on April 8.  Hopefully, we'll have clear skies.

Cincinnati is actually just off the path to see the total eclipse best.  The path goes a little west of us;  coming through Mexico, through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Indiana; then through Dayton on it's way to Cleveland, Erie PA, Rochester, NY, into Vermont and Maine. No matter, we'll see it - darkness will envelope the area - a corona will be visible to those with special glasses.  Those without proper viewing utensils will then be blind.

Remember, if you miss this event, you'll have to wait another 400 years if you stay in this area.
